SD79 Tech Talk Home

SD79 Tech Talk is the location for educators of the Cowichan Valley to check in with current technology integration topics, questions, stories, and concerns. Each month educators have an opportunity to meet and chat in person, but these conversations can be continued throughout the month by a variety of digital opportunities. Stay tune as this site takes shape.

Moodle

For fall of 2011, the technology department has created Moodle instances for all Middle and Secondary schools sites. If you are a teacher at one of these sites and would like to learn about how to integrate a Moodle site into your daily practice, contact Heather via the Technology Help Desk or email hstannard@sd79.bc.ca.

Classroom Wiki

The technology department supports teachers at all sites who wish to have their own classroom wiki. These wikis are simple to use and easily accessible by students and parents. Please contact Heather via the Technology Help Desk or email hstannard@sd79.bc.ca.

Universal Design for Learning

David Rose of CAST (www.cast.org) headed a team of neuroscientists who formalized a framework of instructional design to enable teachers to prepare students to become expert learners. The framework was not designed for students at either end of the learning spectrum, but rather as a means to empower all students to take ownership of their learning through being able to choose the tools that best fits their learning needs within a given task.

During the month of January, there will be an Online Professional Development module for any interested employee of SD79 to register for. All that is required is a computer with internet access and a microphone for joining into the conversation.
